Always wondered why people like the Xbox so much. Personally, it's my least favorite of the three.

I love all systems, I have an Xbox because my friends all have one, I plan on getting a PS3 in April
Re: General Discussion Mark II
The only reason Xbox is so popular is that it has a controller designed for FPS games. I mean, the PS2 was RPG central, the PS3 is mostly platformers and racing games, and the Xbox is FPS heaven.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
That explains why I don't play Xbox.
And before you try telling me not to look down on FPS games, it's because I SUCK at them. I have accomplished some pretty suck-tastic things in FPS games. Getting stuck on the first level of one, getting killed on the second level of another on the easiest difficulty while somebody who had played was in the room giving me advice... terrible. Though I'm sure I could bash on the storywriting of individual ones, and say that stereotypically, they have bland, generic plots about aliens, zombies, and top-secret military projects.

I wouldn't try to force an opinion of "HERP DERP FPS IS BEST!!" on anybody. It's each to their own. IMO, RPG's are the premier genre, but my opinion is biased, as the first game I ever played was FFVII for the PSX.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Yeah, here's the thing: I don't like FPS games. Not necessarily because I'm bad at them...although I am, it's because I find them boring. Oh, hey, a guy--oh wait, no, I removed his stomach. Oh, another guy--never mind, his head's gone. Oh, look at that, it's a dog--oh f*ck he's killing me he's killing me ah, crap I'm dead.
That's about the extent of it. Plus, yeah. The stories are stupid and boring, and pretty much all the same. Compare, let's say, Mario, just for a random example. The stories aren't exactly variant, but it's nice to see some new level designs, have something new to deal with, and get new power-ups to vary the gameplay style. With FPS games, it's all the same. Sure, maybe one gun has more power than another one, or maybe one has less reload speed. So freakin' what? The objective is still the same. Either stand in one spot and kill everyone who comes in the door, or run around blasting people. It's not interesting. The maps are all the same, and it generally goes the same way. Run around, kill, die, no consequences. In Legend of Zelda, if you die, you go back to your last save, or the start of the room, and have to do stuff over. But there are new dungeons and new puzzles to figure out, new bosses. FPS games almost never have any of that.
tl;dr: Almost every FPS game is the same or almost the same, so I don't like them.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Yeah the more I play the more I see the similar pieces, or maps. I'm not a god but I do we'll enough on my own, but I'm way better at third person, ops, and stealth games. And I can't forget RPGs, those are beautiful
Re: General Discussion Mark II
Can we maybe stop talking about how awesome RPGs are? We're on a site that came about because we all love Kingdom Hearts, I think us liking RPGs is a given.
Also, my first game ever was a Racing game, and yet I still prefer platformers...and the obvious.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Third-person shooters are a better shooting game, as you have puzzles, bosses, 3d platforming, etc. (Looking at you, Ratchet and Clank)

Great. But we were talking about the shortcomings of FPS games. I haven't met anyone who had anything bad to say about Resident Evil. Granted I don't actually talk to a lot of people, but at least that series has a plot other than, "Hey, let's kill some zombies!"

Re: General Discussion Mark II
My first game was....Ratchet and Clank I think. Either that or one of Crash's game because I didn't own a PS until I was like 8. I had a Gameboy Advance, and a GameCube at 9 or 10.
Re: General Discussion Mark II
Funny, I think one of the first games I ever played was a racer, too... N64, Star Wars Podracer. And I got a GBA SP for my birthday once, with Pokemon Red and a Spider Man game that I sucked at. I couldn't figure out Pokemon Red, and my brother was uder the impression that it didn't save properly. Eventually, I got Emerald, and by that time, I understood that carpets marked doors. The blinking arrows helped, too.
FFIIIDS was my first RPG, not counting Pokemon. My brother owned it, and showed me a little bit of it. For some reason, I thought it looked a bit like Legend of Zelda in style, maybe because of Luneth's hairstyle. I borrowed his copy and played a bit... and one thing lead to another, and here I am on the Haven of all Kingdom Hearts RPs.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Mine was FFX, then I got trapped in the embrace of fighting games until I was 12 then I jumped back into...well I bet you guys can guess.
Re: General Discussion Mark II
Damn, I can't even remember my first RPG. It might have been a PS1 game...Or...maybe it was DragonBall Z Sagas for PS2? A game I still have, by the way. It doesn't actually work, but I still have it. The other one was Pokemon Ruby, which I'm replaying...unfortunately on an emulator, since I can't find my cartridge or my GBA any more. Anyway, I went on to FFX, which...Tidus, Wakka, Kimhari, Lulu, Yuna, and Rikku all made me shy away from, played another FF game or two, and at one point saw a commercial for KHII, and figured maybe it was one of those games where you could jump in anywhere. I was wrong, and proceeded to play it, CoM, and KH1 in that order before catching up, and I've only recently beaten Re:CoM, and only as Sora.
Even at that, it's only been a few years since I beat KH1. Damn Maleficent Dragon, freakin' rematch with Riku, flippin' Antisora...But the boss that took most of my hate was Demyx. Those DAMNED water forms, gaaaah. 10 in 10 wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that the arena is huge, and I almost always die from time just as I'm reaching the last one. SO MUCH RAGE!!!

Re: General Discussion Mark II
I beat him after a 2 year rage quit, I practically jizzed my pants over that. I actually played only 2 and CoM, I skipped the first because I actually remembered everything from my friends play-through I watched. I get a almost ultimate memory on video games and books but never on math or things I feel bored in.
Re: General Discussion Mark II
I remember the games fine, just sometimes I feel the need to play 'em again, just because I miss going around the places and having something to do other than fight generic enemies. It's fun for me to replay games.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
first ever game: Super Mario 64. God I love that game. I'm making my kids play that as their first game. XD
First racer: Mario Kart 64, though I occasionally prefer Double Dash or Diddy Kong Racing.
First RPG: FFI on an emulator on a Windows '98.
Favorite RPG: Four way tie. No joke. Persona 4/Disgaea 2/Pokemon White 2/Kingdom Hearts 2.
Favorite FPS: Goldeneye (cause i don't completely suck ass at it!)
I've beaten every game in the series besides DDD on Proud. I'd just like to state that. And multiple times at that.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
I seriously dunno what everyone's talking about with that. I really don't. If one of these days I have to LP the whole damn game just to get to HB and prove that I have no problems with it, then I'll do it once I get the equipment.

Well, what would you rather, KHII cam, or KH cam?
I'd go KHII personally, I just found it easier to use.

KH2, but I never had problems with the KH1 cam other than the somewhat noticeable lack of height adjustment. Still worked perfectly fine though.
