Hybridic Heroes RP

Hiroki went for a wander around the town, not really with any sort of goal, just a wander. The smell of dung was one he'd long been used to, even grown fond of over the course of his life. He stopped at a corner and pulled out a knife he could clean his fingernails with, not having a better tool to use, and replaced his knife when he'd finished and going back to walking around. Let's see, do I need anything? he wondered. Not really...so he kept walking, even a bit beyond the town's borders.

Stien looked at the other people who he assumed where other contestants, then Stien looked back at the skinny man and started talking in a gruff voice " Yes I'm ready, what is the challenge?"

<not a problem.>

The townsfolk silently give Hiroki a berth wherever he walks, some of them afraid of the strange man, others simply not having time to deal with the man who insisted on walking in the middle of the street. Upon coming to the town's border, the slummy areas appear to be more prominent, and several children are playing, but they're filthy and covered in dirt. Some women work outside, washing clothes and beating rugs.

Slipping through the crowd with some effort, Xinthu eventually is able to see what is going on in the middle of the mob.

Hiroki shook his head. "Geez, you'd think I was some psycho or something," he mumbled. He paid little mind to the dirty kids or the slums, and less to the women washing clothes. After all, they weren't his problem, his kids, his women, his clothes. He'd have given them money if they asked, but as of yet, they hadn't, so they couldn't be that bad-off. The thought at the forefront of his mind was that this was definitely an area he didn't want to live in.

Rook looked at Oran, nodding in greeting. "My father may have been a thief but he had rules of honor and precision, one of those being 'if you can't be on time, arrive early'" he said as he turned his attention to the cooks in the back. "That and because a maid insisted I was wake, on your recommendation, good sir" he added smirking slightly. "But your correct, it seems my competition has yet to show"

The man smiles, and simply says, "Just show me what you can do. What's your best skill? Do that for me and I'll judge you based on its own merit.

Xinthu is greeted by the sight of Alle hauling away an unconscious and somewhat beefy man. The crowd disperses to let the unfortunate fool through, and as Alle returns she smiles broadly at Xinthu. She also seems to have slightly fresher blood on her teeth. "Well well, folks, looks like the last contender of the day arrived."

Oran sighs and then lets out a low, gurgling chuckle. "Well, we'll wait until later. If no one shows by then, you'll be home free."

---Ryth---

Some of the children look up and stare at Hiroki, huddling together or looking as if they might approach him further. The mothers of the children nearby quickly tell their children to come closer, and five of them run off, leaving a mere handful behind to gawk in wonder at this lithe, capable man.

<I'm really sorry about not replying, I get it in my head that I'll wait to reply to all of you and I end up forgetting that you guys replied already. Sorry.>

Hiroki wondered why exactly they were all staring at him. It wasn't like he was anything special. He'd grown up a thief, and this was his chance to make something of himself. If they were in his position, they'd have turned out the same. He considered grooming himself briefly--it wasn't as though many people didn't know of his kind--but decided not to. After all, that would be more revealing than he'd have liked. Besides, just because they knew of his species didn't mean they knew he was one of them, and better to keep it that way. Just in case.

Rook shrugged as he turned on his stool. "I sure wish i could have had some fun in my time here." He said reaching behind him to grab his drink.

Xinthu raises his eyebrow at the sight before him. "So in order to sign onto this thing, I have to just hold my own or do I have to take you down?"

Oran laughs. "Oh, we'll be getting to that. I still have to make sure you qualify to actually assist my boss." He grabs his own drink and swallows loudly, the drink seeming to quell his gurgling for the moment. "I have faith in you, though."

"Either or. If it's just endurance and not getting the snot beat out of you, I'd say two minutes and you pass. If you can pin me before then, however, you pass automatically. No questions asked."

---Ryth---


Quietly one of the children hesitantly approaches Hiroki and simply stares at him for a moment. The child has dark brown hair and astonishingly blue-white eyes, and seems somewhat cleaner than the other kids. After a short time, the child hesitantly asks "Are you lost, mister?"

<Hybrids are quite common in this world, Haar. Unless the hiding the cat ears thing is something you wanted to do. Just making sure. >

Rook downed his drink in one go and chuckled. "Thank you Oran, i'm sure i'll prove to be a good hired hand"

Stepping forward into the slightly bloodied open space, Xinthu rolled his shoulders in an attempt to loosen them. "This isn't really my forte, so you'll have to forgive me if I'm a little rusty."

<I understand that it's common, but being that he's a thief, bright orange hair with black stripes tends to make you more conspicuous, so he covers it.>

Hiroki shook his head. "Nah. Just walking around. Why? You need something?" There was no edge to his voice, sounding more legitimately concerned.

Stien looked into the mans eyes for a seconded until he stepped back from the stand. " I am profound with a sword, but I can fight with any form of melee weapon, even my fists." He cracks his knuckles loudly as if proving a point.

<Gotcha. Better safe than sorry. XD>

The man stands up and motions for the boy and woman to do the same. "Well then, we'll have to see about that, won't we? I think there's a small space out back where we can do the testing." He escorts the three people out back.

The child shakes his head, hair flipping back and forth as he does so. "No, but thank you," the child says, smiling. "If you're not lost, I'm going now." The child runs off to play with his friends, but not before glancing back at Hiroki in simple wonderment.

---Mord---

Rook's meal soon comes out from the back room, a scrumptious breakfast including two sweet rolls, an orange, some green tea and toast with a small saucer that holds jam in it. Oran nods simply and replies, "It's been a fun few days."

Alle crouches down low, fully grinning at this point. "And old friend of mine says the same thing every time he does something. So forgive me...," she says as she quickly lunges forward, feinting to the right and then spinning left to deliver an elbow strike, "...if I don't believe you!"

Xinthu is barely able to block with his forearm before stepping away. The grin on his face is plain to see as he says, "Huh, I was hoping that you'd buy that for at least a little while."

Rook took his toast and tipped some jam onto the warm bread, then spread it with his finger tip. "Indeed" Was all the theif said as he took a bit of his toast then looked at his companion. "What do you do in terms of work, Oran?" He asked once he finished eating his toast, then moved to his rolls, splitting one in half.

Stien looked at the man wearily as he stood, but Stien still followed the man to the testing area.

The man opens the door in the back, leading to an area enclosed by the backs of other houses and businesses nearby and to the back of the bar. The man turns to Stein and asks, "So, what are your talents?"

Alle easily recoils from Xinthu's strike, and begins bouncing on the balls of her feet. "Well then, shall we stop bluffing and get this on with?" She seems quite eager to continue the fight, and an excited light has come into her eyes.

---Mord---

Stroking his beard a few times, Oran replies, "I tend to sell artifacts that I make for new adventurers... takes quite a bit out of me, I'll tell you that much. It pays well, though, so it's not a terrible loss."

He swallowed the last bite of the first roll, nodding. "You remind me of this old man, he was gruff, but rather interesting skills in magic...he taught me a few ways to heal injuries...I could've become a doctor, but the life of a thief is the life I love..." He offered the second roll to his companion. "I doubt I could afford your services"

Huffing lightly, Xinthu said in an exasperated tone, "If you insist." The false look of boredom and irritation dissolved as a smirk stretched across his face as he steps forward and sweeps with his leg.

Stien followed the man into the arena and raises an eyebrow at the repeated question " I told you anything that is considered melee fighting, but I am profound with a sword or anything sword like." Stien looks at the arena and back to the man, nodding over to the arena Stien starts to talk " But words are just words, how bout I put them into action and prove myself."

<Yeah um...I'm still waiting to get confirmation about my bed at the inn lmao>
