Re: General Discussion Mark II
Yeah... besides, it defeats the big reason Nuzlockes are so popular. They foster a real connection to your allies, since you really could lose them, and when they pull through for you, it's not just a matter of pride, but life and death. And it makes things pretty hardcore, when Persona is already like that. The self-imposed challenge part is a part of the Nuzlocke, but it's not like it's not present in other games. Ever hear of the challenge runs for FFX? No using new equipment or the Sphere Grid or Aeons? In fact, I've seen one that was so long, it had to be abbreviated. That's how many restrictions were placed on it.
Besides, you can't release party members or have them stand out of sight so it feels like they're gone. I mean, in my Nuzlockes, I put my dead Pokémon into a box labeled "Heaven", so I could always give up and bring them back in theory, or at least check their information. I've received criticism for doing that instead of releasing them. In Persona, you CAN'T get rid of them, no matter what. They'll still appear in cutscenes, so it'll REALLY break the feeling of permanent death when you mourn their demise in the past month, then talk with them about going on vacation in Yakushima.
...S-sorry, I have a bad habit of taking jokes really seriously. This COULD make for an interesting challenge, I'll admit, but it would be tricky to maintain - you would even have to keep detailed notes so you don't break the rules by mistake - and it wouldn't have the impact of a Nuzlocke. The other one that was brought up sounds interesting, too, but I can't do it to the full extent of what he intended, since I have P3P, where the girls don't even THINK about the idea that you might be cheating on all of them. I had to experiment to find out whether you COULD break a link, or even reverse it! So while the WBD Minato challenge is neat, I wouldn't get the full experience.

It's pretty much this.Haar_Dragon wrote:Butbutbut it's already Game Over if MC dies.
So when you say "Not to be taken seriously," I'm understanding that as "See how far you get before you die."
@Gregar: What if the MC is so distraught about losing them that he starts to hallucinate and pretend they're real?

Doesn't that just raise more questions? Like, how come other people are responding to them? The entire thing with Chidori and Junpei could only be explained as an ongoing fever dream if, say, Junpei died early on!

Re: General Discussion Mark II
I don't see this working in the narrative form of an LP... But, if done right, it could be done through other medium, like a fanfiction possibly. Just play through the game taking careful notes of the events and how your party members died then re-hashing all of it into an overarching story editing out portions as necessary and writing in the hallucinations.
Say, for example, Junpei dies in the Venus Eagle fight. The very first boss in Tartarus. Then, two months later during the whole Emperor/Empress debacle, you could write the MC as seeing Junpei there with them "in spirit" and helping him survive the fight.

Guys, I found another amazing thing. It's either the best thing, or the worst, depending on perspective. But as somebody who loves Persona 4 to death, I think it's amazing.
Persona 4 Platinum Announcement Trailer (Contains Persona 4 Spoilers!)

(Please note that the most recent comment as of this posting is Faulerro personally stating that he loves all the spinoffs. And that Chie is best girl.)
(And yes, that is Yamcha from DBZA.)

Kanji, Shadow Kanji, Kanji's Mom, and the Fox. Not going to lie. That got me. XD
Re: General Discussion Mark II
Heh. It's true, though. When you make a dancing/rhythm game out of an RPG, you are absolutely and irrevocably milking the series. Meanwhile, Persona 3 is only slowly being brought back to the surface...but I can wait. Also, PQ hype is setting in...

I think there's a term for that. It's called Atlantica in KH 2.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
At least KH2 was an RPG outside of that world, though. And while we're at it, didn't everyone and their mother hate that world? You'd think that would put a message out there. Mind you, there hasn't been anything Atlantica-y since then, so if nothing else, Square learned from it.
This on the other hand...is its own game. With a story. And not filler. And about as far from its source material as you can go. And somehow, it still makes sense in context (story-wise). And it still sounds like a bad idea...but I'll probably still end up associating with it in some capacity.

Hey, good job.
Yeah, I'm with Haar on this one. And, ah, Atlantica is a SINGING minigame world in KHII. *Hairflip* Gawd, get your facts straight.

True, but it's still a rhythm game. A shitty one. In fact I'm probably being too generous there, it's actually more of a lame quick time event. As opposed to a totally awesome quick time event, I guess. The point is it sucked.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Yes, it sucked. Nobody sane will argue that. Unless they just really wanted a break from combat, since it was easy as hell. ...Then again, I'm musically-inclined, so I may have a bit of an advantage in that regard.
Anything that relies so heavily on quicktime events is probably a bad idea. Disclaimer: probably.

I'm well aware; that doesn't make it any less of a 'holy sh*t' moment. Nor does it make it less hilariously jarring to alternate between that and talking about Pokémon.
It really is. Seems like they made sure to keep it nostalgic, like referencing the original openings, the moving truck sequence, and even the text box style. I've decided to actually go for the completed Hoenn Pokedex because of the extra features. I won't let Feebas slip away this time!

Feebas. Ah that annoying, fugly fish that becomes a beauty...
The bad times of fishing...
I know what you mean. xD I liked how Rexial was all about being careful but lapsed the moment someone close to him got hurt .

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Oh, and looking at the map, it suggests that Ever Grade City might actually be a city, not just a waypoint to the Pokémon League. That would be cool.
So, I got Alpha Sapphire version. You?
Well, less 'hurt' and more 'stabbed on a jagged spike'.

I see you man.
And jeez, the DexNav is sooo addictive. Sneaking up on Pokemon is just too damn fun. xD
Same here, Alpha Sapphire. Everyone was like 'Badass Groudon' and I was like 'That poor fish'... XD The only disappointment is the lack of a Battle Frontier ~_~
Well, I thought tendrils would be more elegant than a vacuum cleaner. A_A
